Heard Concerns

Some admit their sectional is easy and fear tougher competition post-change +

This reinforces the need for standardized formats ensuring fairness across the state. Although some of the foundational guidelines of the WIAA bylaws prevent full fairness, moving to a model that is the same in all divisions helps us make future changes around this topic.

Coaches liked the team component but wanted more individual qualifiers, so voted 'no' +

Proposal already increases individual qualifiers (560 to 588) and creates division equity.

D1 coaches misinterpret they will lose a state qualifier +

The plan retains 14 qualifiers per bracket in D1, D2, and D3. Currently D1 has 16 teams in their sectional and will qualify two per weight. This proposal has the exact same ratio -- 16 teams and qualify 2 per weight.

Fear of change fatigue or added complexity +

Proposal simplifies the tournament structure, removes mid-week duals, and streamlines brackets.

Desire for even more individual qualifiers beyond proposal +

Proposal already expands individual participation while balancing logistics and official availability.
